Police recaptured on Thursday in Mampang an Abu Sayyaf militant who escaped from police custody while he and another militant were about to be brought to the Zamboanga City Jail a week ago .

Alnhur Usup alias Abu Arab-Arab and Abu Puti was nabbed by policemen at a mosque in Mampang around 1:30 p.m. He was immediately brought to the city police office for interrogation and detention.

Usup and Jamal Labuan, both members of the Sulu faction of the Abu Sayyaf  were arrested by government forces along Gov. Camins Avenue, this city at dawn on June 2. Recovered from their possession were a fragmentation grenade, shabu and stolen motorcycles.

Usup has standing warrant of arrest for murder in connection with a massacre in Talipao town, Sulu.

Usup and Labuan were part of a six-manAbu Sayyaf  team sent to this city to kidnap a prominent businessman in San Roque.

Usup and Labuan were being transported aboard a police L300 van to city jail coming from the Hall of Justice around 11 a.m. on June 21 Usup managed to get his wrist out of the handcuffs and jumped from the vehicle through the window.

The only policeman who was escorting the two Abu Sayyaf men sitting at the back of the vehicle was able to subdue only Labuan who was also trying to escape.
