Newly-reelected congressman of Sulu dies at 69 PDF Print E-mail

The people of Sulu mourn the death of 1st District Rep Habib Tupay Loong who died of liver cancer in Manila at dawn Friday.

Loong, 69, won in the last elections as representative of the 1st district and died around 12:30 a.m.after more than a month of confinement  at St Luke Hospital in Quezon City.

Loong joined the government services in 1974 and served  the Suluanos in many capacities in government before he was elected as Representative of  the 1st district of Sulu.

His remains arrived in Zamboanga City shortly before 1 p.m. Friday aboard a commercial plane.

Mourners trooped to  the local airport to meet his remains and after few  minutes, members of his family  brought the body to Loong residence in Tumaga for one hour, to allow more mourners to see him  for the last time before he was brought to Jolo, Sulu aboard a  military fastcraft for  Muslim  rites and interment. — Nonoy  E Lacson
