WMSU marks 107th year PDF Print E-mail

Western Mindanao  State University celebrated yesterday its 107th Foundation Celebration with the theme “ WMSU Going Global at 107”.
The celebration was highlighted by the conferment of the Degree of Doctor of  Humanities Honoris Causa on Sr. Jose R. Rodriguez  Director of  Instituto Cervantes de Manila.

Cervantes was born in the  autonomous region of Galicia Spain.

During  the celebration,  four persons were also given special awards as honorees of  WMSU foundation celebration. They were Atty. Darlene R. Pajarito, Assistant City Prosecutor of Zamboanga City (for successfully prosecuting a human trafficker. She was also awarded by the US government); Dr. Eldigario D. Gonzales, president of WMSU from 1997 to 2007 (He was represented by his son Voltaire), Dr. Ofelio R. Mendoza,  Alumni Regent 2008 to 2009 and Prof. Esnaen M. Catong, Faculty Regent from 2008 to 2010.

The awarding ceremony was held at Sapphire Room, Grand Astoria Hotel with Mayor Celso Lobregat as guest.

WMSU President Grace Rebollos expressed gratitude to all those who attended the ceremony.

WMSU was established in 1904 as Zamboanga City Normal College. One of its graduates is Philippine Navy Flag Officer in Command Admiral Alexander Pama.— Allen Abastillas
