It isn’t the urgent call of the time, but if President Duterte uses his iron fist to implement curfew for minors, Mayor Maria Isabelle G. Climaco-Salazar is all for it.

In a chance, casual interview with this writer, Mayor Climaco said that in keeping with the pronouncement of the president to ban unescorted under-aged youths from the streets after 10 o’clock every night, she will ask the cross-section of the city, particularly the business sector, for guidance before implementing curfew for minors – aged 18 years old and below.

“I am all for it (curfew),” she said, adding that the security of youngsters is a primary concern.

In late October last year, the police rounded up 27 minors and street children as ordered by Mrs. Climaco. The campaign to clear the sidewalks and streets of homeless people and bums was prompted by the city’s renewed cleanliness program.

Meanwhile, the mayor said she will conduct a no-nonsense cleanliness campaign as she mulls the hiring of a private utility firm for the upkeep of the city. While the anti-littering drive is ongoing, the police cannot keep up with the litterbugs, especially along Climaco Ave. (Guardia Nacional). – Bob Jaldon
