Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has ordered the cancellation of the planned purchase of the allegedly overpriced mobile clinic that became the center of controversy and the focus of the heated campaign in the last election.

As quoted by the supplier of the mobile clinic based in Manila, the price of the unit was P37,890,000. Former Councilor Percival Ramos exposed the alleged irregularity as he presented figures obtained from Laboit Specialty Vehicles based in Ohio, U.S.A. for the same type of medical unit with a price of only P16,352,534.

The office of the city administrator pushed for the purchase of the mobile clinic even at its overpriced amount until the mayor’s “stop” order was issued last week.

“We have an option to build at least three cheap mobile clinics using L-300 vans,” Mrs. Climaco told DZT columnist Bob Jaldon in a chance interview.

Years ago, the city purchased mobile clinics with a local businessman acting as broker.
