The city government will join the Muslim community of Zamboanga and the world in celebrating the Eid al Fitr which marks the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan today, July 6.

Mayor Beng Climaco, together with local leaders, will spearhead the local government’s Hariraya celebration with a simple yet meaningful program at the Paseo del Mar at 4:30 PM, in solidarity with the Muslim community in the City.

The simple rites will include messages of solidarity from the chief executive and members of the Zamboanga Inter-Faith Council as well as cultural presentations and performances.

Today, July 6, is a national holiday as declared by Malacañang in observance of Eid al Fitr, the culminating celebration of the month of Ramadan.

The chief executive has expressed her solidarity with the Muslim community in Zamboanga, and has enjoined Muslims, Christians, and Lumads to continue working together for the betterment of the City.

Eid’l Fitri, also known as Ramadan Id, is celebrated by Muslims across the world, at the end of the month of Ramadan. It signifies the breaking of the fasting period, with the sighting of new crescent moon in the evening, on the last day of Ramadan. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
