The military have shelled a known enclave of the extremist Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in Tipo-Tipo town, Basilan province for the past two days.

Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) Spokesperson Major Filemon Tan said in an interview Tuesday an estimated 150 suspected members of the ASG, headed by bandit leaders Furuji Indanan and Isnilon Hapilon, tried to attack a nearby village in Punoh Amirul, Barangay Baguindan, but residents resisted and sought assistance from the military.

Tan said they have yet to conduct battle damage assessment as fighting is still ongoing.

No losses were reported among responding government forces.
