Internally displaced persons (IDP) leaders from the 3 transitory sites in Masepla, Mampang will gather Thursday, July 7 for a community consultation intended to ensure continuous communication and bridge the gap between the government, project implementers and the families affected by the 2013 siege.

Jointly organized by the Communications Working Group (CWG)/City Public Information Office and Camp Coordination and Camp Management cluster in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the activity is set at 9am at the Women Friendly Space (WFS) in Masepla TS 2 in Mampang.

Aside from IDP leaders, barangay officials from Mampang will also attend the activity that will tackle prevailing issues to include security, illegal drugs, education, housing and basic services. Representatives from concerned agencies are expected to attend to consultation which will also be a general assembly of the IDPs in the area.

The activity forms part of the continuing communication efforts of the CWG/PIO and the city government serving as a channel for feedbacks to address the concerns of IDPs voicing out their needs and sentiments.

This is the second community consultation conducted in the transitory site, the first of which discussed issues pertaining to the gastroenteritis outbreak. The same activity will be replicated in other transitory sites.

Aside from community consultations, other communication efforts to reach out to the IDPs are the conduct of information caravan, focused group discussions, publication of newsletters, fliers and other IEC materials among others. — Sheila Covarrubias
