Congressman Celso Lobregat has expressed full support to the anti-drugs campaign intensified by the police in Western Mindanao being spearheaded by no less than Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Billy Beltran.

Lobregat said that this move is timely and relevant and should be given full support in relation to the thrust of President Rodrigo Duterte against the serious drug problem in the country.

Beltran is personally leading the campaign and is hands-on in conducting briefings to police operatives in the city of Zamboanga and in other places in Zamboanga Peninsula relative to the operational procedures on anti-illegal drugs campaign dubbed as “DOUBLE BARREL”.

This week, Zamboanga City Police Office’s station commanders and staff under Supt. Luisito Magnaye were lectured by Beltran about the campaign and directed them to implement it in order to enhance their present anti-drug operations in their respective areas of responsibility.

In a recent meeting with Chief Supt Beltran, Congressman Lobregat stressed the importance of a more intensified and serious anti-drugs campaign in all barangays as well as the efforts in neutralizing the “big time” drug lords operating here and not only against the users and small-time pushers.

In response, police have identified at least four big-time drug lords and suppliers in Zamboanga City based on testimonies provided by drug offenders who already surrendered in various barangays.

Beltran said these big-time drug personalities are now being monitored by police intelligence.

Beltran expects the number of identified drug traders and suppliers to increase in the coming days as throngs of drug users are turning in themselves for rehabilitation.

For his part, Lobregat expressed elation over the implementation of “Oplan Toktok-Hangyo” or “OPLAN Tokhang” which is very effective at present and resulted in the yielding of hundreds of drug dependents in Zamboanga City.

Lobregat also commended the ZCPO and its station commanders as well as the barangay officials for the bulk of drug offenders who have already surrendered and have expressed intent to surrender.

“The current aggressiveness of our local police in the campaign against illegal drugs in the city is very commendable. They should pursue it consistently and my office is here to fully support it,” Lobregat said. – Dexter Yap
