Supt. Salbino C. Piad, chief of the PNP’s Regional Maritime Unit 9 led Saturday the marking of the land in Barangay Atong-Atong in Lantawan, Basilan for the construction of a Maritime Special Unit Operations ( MSOU ) gunboat building.

Piad together with Lantawan Municipal Administrator Abdulmajid Aliyul and Isabela City Maritime Station Chief SPO4 Babilito Troyo planted the four posts with a white textile to the four corners of the 3,600-square-meter land in the coastal area of Barangay Atong- Atong.

Aliyul said the land is a property of Lantawan donated to the Maritime Group of the Philippine National Police.

He said once the project is completed,  Atong-Atong could become become a tourist destination because on one side are beautiful beaches and the other side is the site of an ongoing finger wharf project of the municipality.

“Generally the people will  be benefitted from it,” Aliyul said.

Piad said that the project is a three-storey building with mini wharf and gun boat house, funded by the International Criminal Investigation Training Assistance Program of the US Department of Justice (ICETAP-USDOJ). The land is the counterpart of the government. Work  will start anytime after the deed of donation is properly done. —  Allen Abastillas
