The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Zamboanga City office has urged the youth to register as registration for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) opens.

“I want to appeal especially to the youth to participate during the SK and barangay registration and elections so that we will have a  representative for the youth sector,” Atty. Stephen Roy Cañete, Comelec Zamboanga City, District 1 election officer, said in an interview.

Comelec Resolution No. 10148 scheduled the voter’s registration from July 15 to 30, including weekends and holidays.

Registrants who are interested must personally file their applications with the Offices of the Election Officer on those stated dates from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Applicants must bring with them proper identification to include birth certificate, identification cards or school records.

Registration is open for first-time voters both in regular and SK polls as well as reactivation for those who have been deactivated for failing to participate in at least two consecutive elections.

Registrants for barangay elections must be at least 18 years old by the time of the elections while 15 years old for SK elections. They must be a resident of the Philippines for at least one year.

Those voters 18 years old to 30 years old can participate in both barangay and SK elections.

The election officer said that they already have the needed forms for the registration and the necessary computers for the registration of voters.

For the regular voters, Zamboanga has 213,715 registered voters for District 1 covering 37 barangays in the west coast while for District 2, the city has 199,080 registered voters covering 61 barangays in the city’s east coast. —R.G. A A. Go
