A man was shot dead by two brothers Sunday night in Sinunuc in what police suspected as a case of “crime of passion”

Mohammad Yasher Abison, a native of Bangkerohan, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, sustained multiple bullet wounds in the body and died on the spot.

The alleged assailants, Abila Lawan and his brother Abdulla Lawan, both of Maasin. were arrested during a follow-up operation carried out by policemen led by Chief Insp. Hingming Chang Ladjaali.

Initial investigation disclosed that Abison allegedly had an illicit affair with Abila’s wife with whom he was supposed to meet Sunday night along Sinunuc highway particularly in front of Acapulco Resort. But instead it was the woman, Abila and his brother who arrived and shot Abison several times.

Police said that after Abila caught his wife communicating with Abison through cell phone, he ordered her to call him set up a meeting at Acapulco Resort.

Abila took his wife’s cell phone and continued texting Abison pretending that it was his wife and they agreed to meet in that place.

At past 7 p.m. Abison arrived at the meeting place and a couple of seconds later he was surprised with several gunfire from Abila and his brother.

The assailants left the place after seeing the victim dead.

A hot pursuit operation was conducted by policemen led by Ladjaali that resulted in the arrest of the two brothers in their house in Maasin.

Confiscated from their possession were a .45 caliber pistol and a .22 caliber revolver with bullets. – Dan Toribio
