USAID invites Beng to address Int’l confab on urban dev’t PDF Print E-mail

Mayor Beng Climaco on Tuesday addressed the international community in a forum on Gender and Urbanization held in Manila organized by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID through its Strengthening Urban Resilience for Growth with Equity (SURGE) Project.

Held from July 12-13, the 2016 International Conference on Urban Development: Accelerating Resilience and Inclusive Growth, the activity is attended by over 1,200 experts, business leaders, change makers in government, representatives from donor agencies, professional organizations, civil society organizations and students of urban development.  The participants engage with mayors of Philippine cities and representatives from international sister cities as well as thought leaders from the USA, United Kingdom, the Nertherlands, India and Mexico.

Zamboanga City is also given an opportunity to showcase its promotional materials.

The conference, according to USAID-SURGE is the country’s biggest international conference on urban development geared towards addressing the urbanization challenges of emerging secondary cities.

Zamboanga City, it is recalled is one of the 6 cities in the country identified as recipients of the Cities Development Initiative program that seeks to develop cities as engines of growth that is inclusive and environmentally sustainable and resilient. — Sheila Covarrubias
