Four representatives for indigenous people communities took their oath of office yesterday morning, July 15, at City Hall.

Basir Bacuak of Barangay Pasilmanta, Julaida Wilman of Barangay Busay, Saaed Cali of Barangay Cawit, and Fatima Sappalin of Barangay Landang Laum took their oath of office as members of their respective Sangguniang Barangays representing indigenous peoples and indigenous cultural communities.

Mayor Beng Climaco served as the officiating officer for the rites of the incoming barangay officials.

In her message, Climaco called on the newly sworn-in representatives to work together with the local government to safeguard the welfare and well-being of the indigenous communities, and to encourage young children to take pride in their heritage, culture, and traditions.

Climaco also administered the oath of office of Hannah M. Nuño as barangay kagawad for Taluksangay who replaced Councilor Lilibeth Nuño.

Joining Mayor Climaco for the swearing-in ceremonies were Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Director Mohammad Taha Arakama and City Barangay Affairs Division head Bebot Cortez, together with other local and barangay officials.  — Jasmine Mohammadsali
