A bus driver was arrested after a female passenger filed a complaint of rape against him yesterday morning.

A report from the Divisoria Police Station disclosed that the 36-year-old married woman, a native of Dipolog City, boarded an air conditioned Rural Transit Bus with body number 10078 driven by Randy Taruc y Gutang, 40, in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay. They arrived at the Integrated Bus Terminal in Divisoria around 3:30 a.m.

The complainant told the police that she was the last passenger to alight from the bus and Taruc allegedly locked the door of the vehicle then drove the bus to the bus storage area which is located some 500 meters from the IBT.

When they reached the storage area, Taruc told his bus conductor to alight and allegedly started raping the passenger.

The victim told the police that she failed to shout for help while they were heading for the storage area since no one from outside would hear her because all the windows were closed.

After raping her, the victim was brought by Taruc to the highway in Divisoria where she boarded a passenger vehicle heading for Guiwan, She later proceeded to the Divisoria Police Station to report the incident.

Acting on the complaint, policemen with policewoman investigator under the supervision of Chief Insp. Arlan Delumpines conducted a hot pursuit operation that resulted in the arrest of Taruc, who denied the accusation saying there was no rape. — Dan Toribio
