President Rodrigo Duterte arrived in Zamboanga City noontime Thursday enroute to Basilan Province kicking off his tour of military bases in Mindanao.

Mayor Beng Climaco together with Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana led the welcome entourage at the Edwin Andrews Air Base and briefly met with the president and other military and police officials at the VIP lounge.

Security matters and other issues covering Zamboanga City were among the top issues discussed during the brief meet-up.

Mayor Climaco said the president has ordered the military and the police to reinforce security measures in Zamboanga City amidst the diverse challenges besetting the city and the neighboring areas.

The brief meeting at the EAAB ended with the President scribbling the Air Force’s guest book with the note “I love Zamboanga City and the Mayor Beng”. He left for Basilan province via the presidential chopper for a command conference with security officials in Isabela City.

He returned to Zamboanga at the Western Mindanao Command past 4pm and also convened a command conference.

Joining the president in his visit to Basilan and Zamboanga were DND Sec. Lorenzana and AFP Chief of Staff Ricardo Visaya. Wesmincom Chief LGen. Mayoralgo de la Cruz and other officials of other AFP branches housed at Camp Basilio Navarro or Western Mindanao Command headquarters in Upper Calarian.

The president left for Manila after the command conference.
