Mayor Beng Climaco has reiterated her earnest request for the establishment of a permanent military outpost in Rio Hondo during her meeting Wednesday with Defense Secretary Miguel Delfin Lorenzana.

Climaco and Lorenzana had a talk during Pres. Duterte’s stopover visit to Zamboanga Wednesday on his way to Basilan.

The proposed military facility to be established at the Mindeva property in Rio Hondo which the national government had bought for P50 million during the Aquino Administration.

It broke ground last January but actual construction has yet to begin, thus the chief executive reiterated the matter under the present administration to facilitate and expedite the construction of the facility that will take charge of the security measures in the barangay and the neighboring areas.

Former Defense Undersecretary Alexander Pama, who was also the executive director for the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) in the Aquino administration, led the groundbreaking.

Recall, the proposed military facility in Rio Hondo forms part of the Zamboanga City Roadmap to Recovery and Reconstruction (Z3R) plan intended to improve the overall environment of the affected communities, minimize adverse impacts and relocation, and improve public safety and security of the community.— (VTL
