The Philippine Health Insurance (PhilHealth) regional office 9 has warned employers to register their employees with PhilHealth to avoid problems.

“Based on RA 10606, it is compulsory for employers to enroll their employees with PhilHealth,” Bryan Jabay, PhilHealth 9 Information Officer, said in an interview.

He said they are still receiving reports on employers not enrolling their employees to the national health insurance system.

The legal service of the office was also decentralized so any complaint can now be acted by the regional office thru Atty. Liza Capin.

Two problems, according to Jabay, are being looked into in the non remittance of contribution by some employers and failure of employers to enroll their employees with PhilHealth which is mandated by law.

Failure or refusal to register, deduct contribution shall be penalized with a fine of not less than P5,000 but not more than P10,000 multiplied by the total number of employees of the firm. Same penalty also applies for refusal to remit contribution.

“If the evidence warrants the filing of criminal case against the employer apart from administrative PhilHealth can go to the regular court,” Jabay reminded employers.

This is being done as the thrust of the office is more on collection as PhilHealth could only be sustain if the office have better collection.

Jabay is advising employees to check always their pay slip and for employers to pay the PhilHealth premium of their employees regularly. “Pensa ustedes hinde man assenso di ustedes negocio si nohay dituyu empleyado el basic cuida kita diatun empleyado man register kanila with PhilHealth y na maga employees be observant mira el pay slip si chene deduction.”

The office is also ready to accept complaints and they assure the confidentiality of the complainants.

Of the P 2,400 contribution for PhilHealth, the employers must pay the one half while the employees pay the other half mostly thru salary deduction.

In Region 9, PhilHealth has 1,828,867 members while 964,594 for Zamboanga City. With the PhilHealth membership, both members and their dependents will be covered incase they get sick. (R.G. A A. Go)
