Assistant City Prosecutor Atty. Darlene Pajarito and City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo have been invited to a testimonial dinner hosted by President Benigno Aquino III in Malacañang during the so-called “2011 TIP Hero” tonight.

The occasion is part of the President’s recognition of the accomplishments of Pajarito, the Zamboanga City police and other government agencies in their continuous fight against human trafficking.

Pajarito was recognized and awarded by the US government for her successful job in the country’s first ever prosecution of a human trafficker.
The 2011 TIP hero testimonial dinner will be held at Rizal Hall  at 6 p.m. tonight.

Records showed that the local police and other government agencies have been vigorously fighting against human trafficking with several would be victims rescued and recently and suspects arrested and jailed.

The City Police Office’s Women and Children Section led by Sr. Insp. Gemma Luna under the supervision of De Ocampo have rescued hundreds of would-be victims of human trafficking from other provinces since last year.

Zamboanga City is the exit point of human trafficking victims. All of them are being illegally recruited to work in Sabah, Malaysia and other nearby countries.
Several operations carried out by police operatives under Insp. Luna resulted in the rescue of many would-be victims of human trafficking since De Ocampo assumed as city police director.

De Ocampo stressed that the police in cooperation with other government and non-government organizations will pursue the campaign against human trafficking. — Dan Toribio Jr.
