The new Zamboanga City Police Office building constructed and funded by the City Government is now 90 percent complete and is expected to be turned over soon, according to City Engineer Luis Despalo.

Costing some P29 million, the two-storey building with rooftop is located at the former Zambagora area at the back of City Hall. It is a priority project of the administration of Mayor Beng Climaco under her Security, Health and Education (SHE) program.

Mayor Climaco in her inaugural address last June 30 as well as in her message before the new members of the City Council during its maiden session last July 19, reaffirmed her commitment to support and assist the security sector in its pursuit to a safe and secure city, as this is also in support to President Duterte’s thrust to fight against illegal drugs, kidnapping and all forms of criminality.

“We will further complement this with all our 98 barangays with an incident command system where its personnel are trained to do intelligence gathering, monitoring, and communication and can respond efficiently to emergencies and disaster,” the mayor declared.

The new ZCPO building sits in a 1,260 square meter area and is undertaken by Everlast Construction under the supervision of the City Engineer’s Office. It broke ground last year.

The funding for the project was allocated in the supplemental budget for 2014. — Sheila Covarrubias
