The office of the Ombudsman for Mindanao has warned the public against the existence of an organization that is falsely and illegally representing itself in Zamboanga City as an affiliated group of the anti-graft body and collecting fees using the name of the government office.

In a letter dated July 7, 2011, Deputy Ombudsman for Mindanao Humphrey Monteroso has sought the assistance of Mayor Celso Lobregat to mobilize the machinery of the local government unit in disseminating the information about the bogus group called Citizen Intelligence and Assistance Group (CIAG) to other offices—both private
and public so that the general public may be warned against and protected from the deceitful activities of the said group.

Monteroso said his office has received reports that the CIAG “is falsely and illegally representing itself in the City of Zamboanga to be affiliated with the Office of the Ombudsman and collecting membership and other fees using the name of this Office”.

The deputy ombudsman has attached in his letter to the mayor a certification issued by the Ombudsman Central Office stating that “Citizen Intelligence and Assistance Group headed by Nurhasan L. Sana-Ani is NOT an accredited Corruption Prevention Unit of the Office”.

He stressed that the group has no authority, among others, to collect any and all kinds of fees using the name of the Office of the Ombudsman. — Sheila Covarrubias
