Mayor Beng Climaco Wednesday afternoon convened the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) to discuss prevailing issues related to peace and security specifically the intensified drive against illegal drugs.

City Police OIC Director PSupt. Luisito Magnaye presented an overview of the ongoing operations against illegal drugs including the possibility of giving drug personalities who voluntarily surrendered various rehabilitation programs.

Mayor Climaco said the Task Force Cambio Vida through City Health Officer Rodel Agbulos is devising ways on how to complement the anti-drug operations of the police through the rehabilitation and recovery programs for surrendered drug dependents.

Magnaye designated a focal team led by a senior police officer in each police station, whose task is to coordinate with the barangay officials in identifying areas affected or severely affected by drugs.

The issue about the supposed announcement of President Duterte that he will give safe conduct pass to Moro National Liberation Front Chair Nur Misuari was also tackled.

However the Council decided to restrain the issuance of an official statement regarding the issue while waiting for an official directive or guidance from the Office of the President.

Vice Mayor Cesar meanwhile, sponsored a resolution inviting PNP Chief Ronald “Bato” de la Rosa to Zamboanga City to conduct security enhancement sessions among police men and women including other problems besetting the police force as well as to grace the soon to be completed ZCPO building at the back of City Hall.

Aside from Iturralde and Col. Magnaye also present during the CPOC meeting held at the City Hall conference room were Task Force Zamboanga Commander Col. Juvymax Uy, DILG City Director Mohammad Taha Arakama, City  legal Officer Jesus Carbon, City Prosecutor Ricardo Cabaron, Edwin To and representatives of other regular members representing the different sectors. — Sheila Covarrubias and Vic Larato
