House Deputy Speaker for Mindanao Beng Climaco the other day spearheaded the inauguration of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Journalism Laboratory which is aptly named after her late uncle Mayor Cesar C. Climaco.

The Journalism Laboratory is dedicated to the late Mayor Climaco, whose bravery in fighting democracy epitomizes what is expected of all mass communication students and future journalists in Zamboanga.

The facility which forms part of the newly renovated Mass Comm complex that the ADZU has put into place as part of facilities improvement, is a donation from the congresswoman and the Fundacion Climaco.

The unveiling ceremony was preceded by the blessing rite led by ADZU president Fr. Antonio Moreno SJ. Representatives from the Fundacion Climaco and members of the Climaco family as well as university officials and students graced the occasion held July 29 on the occasion of the University’s Feast Day.

The ceremony was also highlighted by the signing of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between Cong. Climaco and ADZU officials for the establishment of the District I Scholarship Subsidy program that would support the 20 scholars of the university.

Climaco expressed jubilation during the launching of the new facility stressing that the project forms part of her advocacy on education. (Marvin Segura)
