A total of 1,629 suspected drug users  yielded to the Pagadian City Police Office under “ Oplan Pasaylo” from July 1 to the present.

Pagadian City Chief of Police Supt. Michael Palermo disclosed  that the suspected drug users were given a  certificate after they pledged to reform their life and do stay away from drugs.

According to Palermo, the suspected drug users also pledged that they will render community service like cleaning of barangay where they reside as well as tree planting.    They also submitted themselves voluntarily  for drug test conducted by the Crime Laboratory of Zamboanga  del Sur Police Provincial Office in Camp Abelon.

The suspects are also monitored and checked from time to time by the officers of the Barangay Anti -Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) in each barangay to know  if they have truly renewed  themselves and stop using illegal drugs.

“If they violated their oath or caught again by the police using illegal drugs, it is on their lookout already because they are already given chances. Using illegal drugs is punishable by law. They can be  put to jail once proven by the court,”Palermo said. —Allen Abastillas
