The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) initiated a five-hour blood-letting activity Friday, July 29 culminating the observance of Disaster Conscious Month in Zamboanga.

The blood-letting activity extracted a total of 84 bags of 450cc of blood.

Volunteer blood donors from the City Government, Police, Task Force Zamboanga and other concerned agencies participated in the activity with the intention of helping save lives. The activity was held at the CDRRMO compound in Zone IV.

The activity was held in collaboration with the City Health Office and the Zamboanga City Medical Center Blood Bank.

Meanwhile, other activities that the CDRRMO initiated in celebration of Disaster Consciousness Month were the conduct of lectures and demonstration son how to rescue a drowning person; lectures during the Student Leaders Training on Disaster Preparedness and Management and the conduct of disaster preparedness and basic life support training for residents of Sta. Cruz island as part of the One Time Big Time Community Outreach Project among others.

On the other hand, the CDRRMO was awarded the Gawad Kalasag Award for highly urbanized city category in Zamboanga Peninsula and is automatically the region’s representative in the national competition during a ceremony held in line with the observance of National Disaster Consciousness Month last July 14 in Pagadian City.
