The Department of Social Welfare and Development-9 (DSWD-9) has announced the regional winners for the Pantawid Exemplary Child and Pantawid Huwarang Pamilya.

DSWD-9 made the announcement Wednesday afternoon at a local mall, where the Pantawid Exemplary Child was bagged by 13 year old, Reynald Arias Baguio from Dipolog City while the Pantawid Huwarang Pamilya was bagged by Libre Family from Brgy. Santiago, Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.

Reynald is one of the triplets of Rey and Florenda Arias Baguio who at first was hesitant and almost decided to have the triplets adopted.

Baguio who won as the exemplary child said, “ako ay maituturing huwarang bata dahil taglay ko ang mga katangiang makadios, makakalikasan, makatao, at makabansa.”

At a young age, he is already the child representative of their Barangay Council for the Protection of Children and he is also the child representative of the barangay investment and development plan for children. The grade 7 student wants to become a scientist one day.

“Sa kapwa ko kabataan mag-aral kayo ng mabuti upang makamit ninyo ang inyong mga pangarap. Kung may talento kayo, paghusayan niyo upang maipakita niyo ito sa lahat,” Baguio reminded the youth.

First place was won by Meriam Jadji of Zamboanga, second place — Joene Jane Deniega from Zamboanga del Sur, and third place — Medjel Pagayon from Zamboanga Sibugay.

The Libre family who won is composed of the head of the family, Roberto Libre who is a seaweed farmer, his wife Clarisa Bustamante Libre who is  a saleslady at an optical shop, and children Denmar who is a Certified Public Accountant, Chyn a teacher, and Denver and Roberto Jr who are students.

The Libre family had also experienced hardship in life including sleeping on the street after their house burned. However, they rose and now two of the children are already professionals. The two who are still studying are being helped by the government thru the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.

She also reminded families that poverty is not a hindrance to give up in life and they must unite as one family.

First place was bagged by the Ponce family of Zamboanga del Norte, second place Tampipi family from Zamboanga Sibugay, and third place Menzuais family from Zamboanga city.

Winners are thankful to the DSWD for the recognition given to them and all winners received plaque and cash prize.

DSWD 9 Assistant Regional Director for Operations, Consejo H. Usman said “we recognize how they exemplified their life as a family. For the child, we recognized the talent you shown us young as you are, you can go a long way.” (R.G. A A. Go)
