An alleged stolen Mitsubishi Adventure with a plate number AHA 6335 owned by a businesswoman was recovered along Pilar Street before noon Wednesday.

The vehicle was spotted shortly before 12 noon by its owner Juliet Malabat, parked along Pilar St. and was immediately reported to the police.

Men of the Central Police Station arrived at Pilar St. along with Malabat and asked the Bomb Squad Team to check the vehicle as part of the standard operating procedure for safety purpose.

While police were checking the vehicle, two barangay kagawad from Sinunuc appeared and one of them identified as Faisal Kiram told the lawmen that he was the driver of the Adventure. He said they borrowed it from another kagawad identified as Maing Iraji to be used to accompany a complainant to a law office at Mendoza building.

In an interview, Kiram said that an unidentified person pawned the vehicle to Iraji for P200,000 recently.

Meanwhile, Malabat said that last April 14, 2016, a certain Margira Falao, whom she knew for a short time, rented from her the Adventur. Falao promised Malabat she would pay it to own the vehicle.

Malabat said Falao gave a down payment of more than P20,000, and failed to settle the whole amount as agreed. Since then, Falao did not return the vehicle until she and the Adventure went missing.

Malabat said that she spotted the vehicle last Tuesday but failed to go after it due to heavy rain until it was seen again  Wednesday along Pilar St.

Furthermore, Malabat said that Falao also took from her a Honda Amaze car before the Adventure and also failed to pay and return the vehicle.

Falao remained missing as of press time.

The case was turned over to the Highway Patrol Group for further investigation. – Dan Toribio
