Mayor Beng Climaco urged anew all agencies involved in the implementation of the Zamboanga City Roadmap to Recovery and Reconstruction (Z3R) plan to focus on timelines and objectives, and to move with utmost urgency to complete shelter construction.

In the Local Inter-Agency Committee (LIAC) meeting convened by Mayor BengClimaco on Thursday, the National Housing Authority (NHA) reported a total of 3,826 housing units of the expected 6,343 have been completed.

Of this number, 1,833 units have been turned over to beneficiaries as of July 30, 2016. The 1,993 units are yet to be awarded.

“We are just halfway through the completion of 100%,” Climaco lamented.

Construction of around 2,517 housing units under different housing packages is currently ongoing.

The chief executive likewise followed up and took to task the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (ZAMCELCO) on the issues and concerns with the energization of Z3R houses.

“We turned over housing in 2014 [but up to now] they are still in the dark. How come you cannot produce electricity?” questioned Climaco.

A P10,000 cash assistance is provided to each IDP family specifically for electricity and water connections. According to ZAMCELCO, bidding for electricity supplies and materials is still ongoing.

To expedite the needed procedures and processes for energization and water connections, Climaco offered the capacities of the local government to provide whatever assistance necessary. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
