The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (Provincial Board) of Basilan has passed resolution extending support to the province’s coconut farmers who are victims of a cocolisap outbreak.

Basilan Vice Governor Yusof Alano said the resolution is an aid of legislation to give support to the coconut farmers in the province.

“The resolution that we passed  is a guarantee that our coconut farmers can avail of cash loan assistance from any government financial institutions  for them to continue their livelihood activities,” Alano said.

Alano said the resolution was also passed in support to the Philippine Coconut Authority which is the frontline agency  in fighting  the cocolisap outbreak and mitigate its effects.

Alano said he has received information that two millionb coconut trees are affected by the cocolisap in Basilan.

“ We support also Gov. Jim Salliman for declaring Basilan under a state of calamity because of the cocolisap outbreak and the ongoing military operations in Tipo-Tipo,” Alano said.

He added that all the local government units in the province  are working together in supporting the military operations  to defeat the lawless Abu Sayyaf so that the people in the area will live normally. — Allen Abastillas
