“On the part of the PNP (Philippine National Police), it was really a clear directive to fight the drug menace aggressively,” the chief executive said.

She added that the local government has gone out of its own to spend and distribute drug testing kits to the police, military and coast guard to ensure that everybody undergoes the mandatory drug testing, including the city government employees.

The city government has also given P2-million assistance to the Sonshine Rehabilitation Center, and lately Task Force Cambio Vida was organized for look after the plight of drug surrenderers.

“The role of the local government is to ensure that the police will be able to meet their targets. We also extend legal assistance and train them on how to file cases against drug suspects,” she said.— Vic Larato
