A 26-year-old woman died, while 27 others were injured when a passenger jeepney crashed and turned turtle in Upper Cabatangan Tuesday morning.

Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, city police information officer, disclosed that a PUJ driven by Wilfredo Alejandro Francisco was bound for Cabatangan with 27 passengers including students aboard  around 6:50 a.m.

Investigation revealed the vehicle lost its brake and the driver decided to crash it on a tamarind tree instead of sending it down a ravine.

But due to the impact, the vehicle fell few meters into the ravine.

The passengers who were pinned down inside the vehicle were rescued by helpful residents and some officials who responded to the accident.

The victims were rushed to the different hospitals aboard two vehicles of the Cabatangan barangay council.

But one of the passengers identified as Julie Lozano y Ignacio, 26, was declared dead on arrival due to fatal injuries she sustained.

Other passengers were identified as Ma. Rosario Borron, 46, Farah Nizza De Leon, 15 (student), Julieta Abanes, 47, Jheruic Hipolito, 17, (student), Rosalie Custodio, 38, Jaipee Quiñanola, 29, Thrisha Mariz Ongos, 6, Therese Marie Ongos, 11, (student), Crisel Sanson, 19, (student),  Crisel Lawan, 11, (student), Raymond Gaganting, 12, (student), Jopseph Barcelon, 25, Cris Joser Abanes, 7, (student), Jan Michael BOrron, 8, (student), they were rushed to Ciudad Medical Zamboanga; Julius Antonio y Ramirez, 42, El John Ferrer y Francisco, 15, (student), Carmelita Acorin, 35, Mary Elise Sanson y Acorin, 5, Robin Sanson, 33, Dennis Sanson y Bartolome, 18, Romelito Acoyado y Santiago, 39, John Paul Acoyado y Tautuan, 12, (student), Juliet Rebollos y Canoy, 37, Cristine Mae Malacat y Saromenes, 16, (student) and Sanny Boy Rojas y Ferrer, 37, who were taken to WMMC.
