Per instruction of Mayor Beng Climaco, operatives of the Zamboanga City Police Office headed by officer-in-charge city police director Sr. Supt. Luisito Magnaye have become aggressive and relentless in their fight against illegal drugs, prompting more suspected pushers and users to surrender for fear of getting killed.

The police reported that they had accounted for a total of 7,353 drug surrenderees as of yesterday morning. Of the number, 7,103 were users and 250 pushers from July 1 to Aug. 10.

During the same period, at least 10 drug suspects were killed and 139 others were arrested in 90 police operations that also resulted in the filing of 88 cases, and the confiscation of shabu in 399 sachets and 2 Ecstasy tablets.

The police have also searched 7,610 houses under “Operation Tuktok Hangyo” or Oplan Tukhang.

From January to June, the police arrested 339 drug personalities in 252 operations, confiscated 324.6776 grams of shabu, and filed 227 cases.

Earlier this week, the city chief executive has instructed Supt. Magnaye to continue aggressively the fight against the drug menace, and ordered him to expedite the mandatory drug test on all PNP personnel assigned in Zamboanga City as drug testing kits had been turned over by the city government through the City Health Office.

She also instructed the regional police director, Chief Supt. Billy Beltran, and Magnaye to investigate the drug-linked police officers in their areas of responsibility (AOR) as named in Pres. Duterte’s drug list.— Vic Larato
