Men of the Culianan Police Station led by Chief Insp. Elmer Solon and members of the Bantay Dagat intercepted three vessels carrying suspected smuggled sugar off Taluksangay Wednesday night.

Solon told newsmen that the two mini motor launches and a junkung, after spotted at sea and inspected, were found to be carrying sacks of sugar. The crew of the boats presented expired documents.

Solon said the boat skippers claimed they loaded the sacks of sugar from Jolo, Sulu and were intended to be unloaded in Arena Blanco.

Initially the police counted 1,400 sacks of sugar aboard the three boats which were being guarded at the Taluksangay mini wharf as Custom Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon is scheduled to arrive here today.

The sacks of sugar will be counted in the presence of Faeldon. – Dan Toribio Jr.
