Comelec 50% ready for barangay, SK election PDF Print E-mail

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced that they are 50 percent ready for the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan scheduled on October 21.

“For barangay and SK election ta mira yo maga 50 percent ya kita,” Atty. Lerdo Matildo Jr., second district election officer, said in an interview.

The office already completed the registration and they are currently finalizing the records where by August 20 they will have the final list of voters, and will only have to wait for  the ballots and other election paraphernalia’s to arrive.

“El Comelec mandated man conduct election. Si nohay suspension or postponement from congress amending the law man conduct gayot kame election this October,” Matildo said.

According to the election officer, currently there is no move for the postponement of the election.

On the manner of how the election will be conducted, they are eying on a manual type.

The first district consists of 37 barangays while the second district comprises of 61 barangays, including eight island villages.

During the July 15 to July 30 registration, a total of 13,135 youths and regular voters have registered in this city. 6,137 of the 13,135 registrants are from the first district while the remaining 6,998 registered in the second district. These youth and additional regular voters are expected to vote during election.

Youths aged 18 to 24 can be a candidate for Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) representatives. Those 15 to 17 years old can only vote for SK while 18 to 24 can both vote for the regular and SK election.

Meanwhile, the filing of the certificate of candidacy (COC) for barangay and SK elections is scheduled from October 3 to 5.

The last SK election was conducted in 2010 while the conduct of the special barangay election was last November 25, 2013.

Recall, the schedule of the barangay election was supposed to be on October 28. However, due to the siege by the Moro National Liberation Front Misuari faction in September 9, 2013, the election was postponed date which resulted to the conduct of a special barangay election. — R.G. A A. Go
