Celso makes preparations for La Niña effects in ZC PDF Print E-mail

Congressman Celso Lobregat is taking steps in preparations for the ill effects of La Niña which is expected to affect the country in the coming months.

The present devastation seen in Luzon and some parts of Visayas due to monsoon rains is a manifestation of unpreparedness by those affected localities hit by floods, landslides and loss of potable water, energy and food supply sources.

Lobregat said that no Zamboangueño would want to become a victim of such situation and as an elected official of the city, he has to take initiatives to help mitigate the effects of a natural calamity that may strike the city.

The solon has made necessary representations in the halls of congress as well with other national government agencies for possible sources of funds and infrastructure projects needed to lessen the effects of the wet season.

“I have already made priorities in constructing the proposed flood control projects in my district, other relevant infrastructures will follow soon,” Lobregat said.

He added that he is set to coordinate with newly degisnated Department of Public works and highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar to see whatever possible major infrastructures which can be brought to the city to protect residents from natural calamities.

Being a governor of the Philippine Red Cross, Lobregat is also very particular in disaster preparedness in which he has coordinated with PRC chairman and Senator Richard Gordon to ensure that Zamboanga City would not be left behind in terms of relief assistance during disasters.

Lobregat also called on all members of the barangay disaster teams to be on alert at all times and organize their respective rescue teams for them to be ready to assist their constituents and the local government in responding to the call of emergency.

Recall that Lobregat has proposed the construction of a pumping station along Pilar street, to ease up flooding in the city proper during rainy season.

Lobregat had also proposed infra projects for implementation in year 2017 budget such as; Construction/ Improvement of drainage facilities in Southcom Village-Upper Calarian, Construction of drainage system in Barangay Malagutay, Construction of drainage system in Canelar, Construction of drainage system in Kampung Islam, Construction of bridge (spillway) at barangay Cabatangan, to name a few. – Dexter Yap
