Isabela City Mayor Al-Qaid J. Akbar on Wednesday announced that he has created a task force to address the problem of  cocolisap in coordination with the Philippine Coconut Authority.

Akbar said there are 4,609 farmers affected by the cocolisap outbreak.

“Ginagawa na nang task force at PCA yong pag  inject ng insecticide sa puno ng coconut trees... pareho doon  sa Los Baños, Laguna. I am optimistic that  it will be successful here,” Akbar said.

City Agriculturist Maria Gina Alberto has reported to Mayor Akbar that there are 924,074 coconut trees  infested with cocolisap, and there are 192,293 coconut trees are dead due to the outbreak.

Based on the City Agriculture Office ongoing counting, 22.485 land areas of coconut trees are affected.

Alberto said seven barangays have already been recorded. The affected barangays with coconut trees are Loboto, Calbario, Binuangan, Tabiawan, Sta. Barbara and East SeaSide.    The farmers affected number 524.

Alberto advised farmers to cut down the trees if they see and count seven leaves affected, so that they can still use the trunks for lumber. — Allen Abastillas
