The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Zamboanga City has announced that administrative sanction awaits barangays without functional BADAC or Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council.

“El barangay hended puede man allocate pondo para na anti drug abuse y hende mobe el BADAC there will be administrative sanction,” Isidro Cillo Jr., DILG Zamboanga chief of operation said in an interview.

Cillo revealed that of the city’s 98 barangays only 40 are revitalized. The office will also exert efforts to make sure that all BADACs are revitalized.

He said they will conduct seminars and trainings for the barangays especially for the members and heads of the BADACs.

BADAC is identifying the programs, strategizing the anti drug programs in the barangays, and identifying drug dependents therein.

The group is composed of barangay officials, church leaders, tanod, and a principal which is a multi stakeholder approach.

RA 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002 provides that the barangay should appropriate considerable amount funds for anti drug abuse prevention program. — R.G. A A. Go
