A stolen car was recovered by operatives of the Highway Patrol Group-9 along the highway in Barangay Ayala Thursday afternoon.

Sr. Inspector Mervin S. Claret, HPG-9 Operation Officer, described the car as a white Mitsubishi Mirage model 2016 with plate number NJ 9919.

Claret said that HPG-9 operatives led by SPO1 Joemar Lacastesantos together SPO1 Gether P. Abo-Abo and PO2 Saham A. Usman were conducting anti-carnapping operations in Ayala, when they received a call  from  PO3 Pervec T. Barios of Basilan province saying that the car of his cousin Gary Eduardo who is engaged in a rent-a-car business in Town Homes, Las Piñas, was not returned after it was rented by a certain Joe Zamora.

Eduardo immediately  reported it to the Las Piñas Police Station, where he was informed that he could be a victim of a “Rentangay Group gang”.

Fortunately, the HPG-9 operatives received a call from PO3 Barios who informed them about the stolen Mitsubishi Mirage.

The car was spotted by the HPG-9 men at Sole’s Hardware and Motorshop in Ayala. Thereafter, they asked who was its driver of the car.  Later they were able to know the possessor of the car — a certain Mary (Name withheld).

Mary told the HPG-9 operatives that she bought it from a certain Evelyn ( Name withheld ).  She was informed of the status of the car.

Sr. Supt. Joel R.  Dimaano, Chief of HPG-9,  after being apprised about the seizure of the car, directed the team to bring the recovered car to the headquarters in Camp Batalla and make a report to HPG Camp Crame for its recovery.

Dimaano also directed Claret to coordinate with the Crime Laboratory 9 for the macro-etching examination.

On Friday afternoon, the representavie of the owner came to HPG-9 for the proper turnover of the recovered car. — Allen Abastillas
