Government forces arrested Saturday afternoon a sub-leader of an Abu Sayyaf-linked kidnap group tagged as responsible for  the series of kidnappings in Zamboanga Sibugay.

Supt. Roger Alabata, Police Regional Information Officer, said Hasim Calon alias Gingging/Husien of the Ali-Barahama Alih Criminal Group, was arrested during an carried out by men of the PIB ZSBPPO, RIU-9 PNP IG, PPSC ZSBY led by Supt. William Gadayan, Ipil Municipal Police Station, AKG-MFU, CTD PNP IG, RID PRO9 and 44IB PA soldiers, under the supervision of Sr. Supt. Romulo Taboso, Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Director.

Calon was nabbed on the strength of  awarrant issued by Judge Anthony D. Isaw of  RTC Branch 24, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay for kidnapping with case number -5832.

Alabata said that Calon was involved in several kidnapping/abduction incidents in Sibugay including that of Joel Indino in Ipil, last January 29, 2011 and Richard Warren Rodwel, an Australian national who was abducted in December 2011.

Recovered from Calon’s possession were six sachets of shabu and several drug paraphernalia.

Police said that Calon is also a notorious drug pusher in Sibugay and included in the police drug watch list.

Calon was detained pending his turnover to the court. – Dan Toribio
