Congressman Celso Lobregat has initiated a signature campaign among colleagues in Congress to give monetary incentive to Rio Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz.

Lobregat said that members of the House of Representatives have invited Diaz in their regular session this week to receive House Resolution No. 175 commending her for what she has done for the country, and Lobregat is spearheading the preparations in the House being the representative of Hidilyn’s hometown.

“I have proposed to House Speaker Bebot Alvarez to launch a signature campaign requesting salary deduction on all congressmen and give the it to Hidilyn, the speaker agreed on my proposal and he was the one who first signed it and placed the amount he pledged to share for Hidilyn,” Lobregat said.

Lobregat then followed and signed and pledged his commitment, to be deducted from his salary in Congress as well as 145 other congressmen who were present in the plenary hall.

There are 290 members of the 17th Congres and Lobregat intends to let everybody sign his proposal.

“We are doing this not for any reason, but to help and inspire Hidilyn and other athletes of the country to aspire more and be like her or more than her also to give honor to our country,” Lobregat said.

He said that such initiative is voluntary in nature and he is glad that almost everyone agreed to it and pledged their support on that move as a good gesture in honoring the pride of Zamboanga. – Dexter Yap
