Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) manager Raul Regondola on Monday handed over to Mayor Beng Climaco the city government’s share in the sweepstakes and lotto sales in the amount of PP4.157 million.

The amount represents the city’s share from PCSO gross sales for the period July to December 2016. The January to June 2016 share is expected to be released by next month.

Mayor Climaco said the amount is used for the social services particularly as assistance to persons in crisis situations. These include the payment of hospital bills, burial assistance and other cash assistance to indigent families who seek help from the city government.

City Treasurer Soledad Li said the local government unit is entitled to a 5% share of the PCSO’s gross sales per semester. The amount varies depending on the sweepstakes and lotto sales.

Regondola turned over the check to Mayor Climaco during the flag raising ceremony of City Government employees in front of City Hall Monday morning.

After the turnover of the check, the mayor met with Regondola at her office to discuss other forms of assistance that the city can provide to indigents with the help of the PCSO.  — Sheila Covarrubias
