The National Food Authority (NFA) Zamboanga City office has assured of stable rice supply in Zamboanga City despite lean months.

Nieves P. Toca, NFA provincial manager, said that lean months start April up  to September then by October, harvest will start.

“Ang stock natin will last for 18 days pero we have expected stock to arrive,” Toca assured.

At present, there are 103,400 sacks of rice stocked at the NFA warehouse for the consumption of Zamboanga City. The city consumes 5,760 bags of rice a day.

Rice totaling to 200,000 bags.will arrive either last week of September or first week of October.

NFA rice is available at the old waterfront public market, Bagsakan, Sta Cruz Commercial Complex and NFA accredited rice retailers. The price of NFA rice is P27 per kilo for 25 percent broken while P32 per kilo for 15 percent broken.

In Zamboanga City, 80 percent of rice sold are commercial rice while 20 percent from NFA.

Toca said that they have some 350 NFA rice retailers from where the public can buy affordable rice. — R.G. A A. Go
