Depositors of the closed Banco Filipino-Zamboanga branch can now claim their deposits.
The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) has dispatched representatives to Zamboanga to conduct Claims Settlement Operations (CSO) for depositors of the closed Banco Filipino-Zamboanga branch from July 20 to August 11.

The CSO is done at the vicinity of the Banco Filipino bank building located at the intersection of Corcuera and Valderroza Streets.
In a letter, PDIC Senior Vice President Sandra Diaz sought Mayor Celso Lobregat’s assistance to mobilize resources to inform the concerned depositors in the city about the claim settlement operations.

Diaz in her letter also mentioned that the last day of filing claims for insured deposits is on March 18, 2013 pursuant to Republic Act 3591 (PDIC Charter), as amended. After this date, PDIC, as insurer, will no longer accept any claim for insured deposits.

The said representatives will be at the mentioned vicinity during office hours not only to pay the claims but also to answer queries from the depositors.

It was March of this year when Banco Filipino ceased operation in different branches nationwide including Zamboanga, declaring bankruptcy due to “extraordinary financial panic” and “heavy withdrawals” and blamed the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) for not acting request for a P25 billion financial assistance. — City Hall PIO
