Lamitan City has received the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s  Regional Gawad Kalasag Calendar Year 2016 for outstanding performance in Disaster Risk  and Reduction and Management relative to  their support to the Regional Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council.

Lamitan Mayor Rose U. Furigay thanked the National Risk and Reduction and Management  Council for the award and recognition.

Lamitan City is a three time recipient of the award making it a Hall of Famer.

On the other hand, Furigay expressed gratitude to the United Nation Childrens Educational Funds for the anti-tetanus vaccination involving young people in Lamitan City.

The UNICEF project started on Wednsday in Barangay Maganda. It will continue to all the otherbarangays in the city.

The vaccination was led by City Health Officer Dr. Vicente Yu and Dr. Ann Marie Abujen and city health  office workers.

In another development, Furigay conferrred with the city’s barangay chairmen on Wednesday regarding the plans and programs on how to assist and provide assistance to suspected drug users and pushers who yielded to the police since July 1.

“We will come-up with a concrete study program for them to become busy and active in the community  so that they  will not be tempted to do drugs again,” Furigay said.

The mayor also calledon Lamitan residents to continue to do  good and not be carried away by intrigues and gossips who spread lies.
