Mayor Beng Climaco spearheads a panel for police recruitment to fill up the 150 quota for the Zamboanga City Police Office.

The panel interview, being held at the City Hall conference room, is set August 25-26. Prior to the interview, the applicants have submitted documentary requirements that included personal data sheet, eligibility examination results and barangay certification.

Climaco said the panel will submit the list of recommendees to the Regional Police Office. She said it is her desire that the list that the local government unit will submit will be honored by the Regional Police Command and that all those who will be hired by latter have been interviewed by the panel.

Being a native Zamboangueno or a resident of the city is a prerequisite for applicants. It is also preferred that the applicants have a general knowledge of Zamboanga and understand and speak the chavacano language.

The recruitment of police personnel is a nationwide undertaking and is aimed to increase police manpower strength, improve police-to-population ratio and enhance police visibility program and anti-insurgency operation of the Philippine National Police.

Each local government unit has a quota, the distribution of which is based on the prevailing peace and order condition and actual personnel demand in areas of operation covered by the respective Police Regional offices.

The National Police Commission has emphasized that the attrition recruitment quota is intended to replenish personnel loss due to retirement, death, dropping from the rolls, separation, dismissal and resignation from the police service. — Sheila Covarrubias
