Two days after Sulu-based kidnappers released the wife of a businessman, the same group seized a government midwife in Barangay Tagbak, Indanan, Sulu last Wednesday afternoon.

Western Mindanao Command Information Officer Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang identified the victim as Hja. Evangeline Taverisma, 55, wife of a retired army soldier and midwife by profession.

Cabangbang said that Taverisma was on her way to the health center where she is rendering duty around 3 p.m. when four young men armed with .45 caliber pistols blocked her path and seized her.

Taverisma was dragged to  a red six-seater Toyota Tamaraw that sped away from the area.
It was learned that the get-away vehicle was the same used in the kidnapping of Jose and Jocelyn Batronil, a business couple, recently.

The Batronil couple was seized in their rented house in Jolo last July 13. Jose was released three days after and was ordered by the kidnappers to produce P100,000 for the release of his wife.

Jocelyn was freed last Monday morning in exchange of P100,000 paid by her husband to the kidnappers.
Sources said the kidnappers could be followers of Nasir Timbang and Commander Pula.

Cabangbang said the military and the police in Sulu are still on hot pursuit operation against the kidnappers. — Dan Toribio Jr.
