An alleged hired killer and a 68-year-old woman were killed while a barangay chairman and a 34-year-old man were wounded in a shootout in Barangay Masidlakon, Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte at noon last Monday.

Supt. Rogelio Alabata, Police Regional Information Officer,  said that Ranulfo Obordo Paglinawan, 47, barangay chairman of La Victoria, La Libertad, Zamboanga del Norte, was driving a motorcycle heading for Singaran, La Libertad around 12:40 p.m. when a gunman who was later identified as Reynaldo Bayron Delfino, 41, who was aboard another motorcycle chased him and upon reaching Barangay Masidlakon, the latter opened fire..

Police said that Paglinawan returned fire triggering a running gunbattle.

In the exchange of gunfire, Violeta Damsig Sacal, 68 and her son Ryan Sacal, 34, who were along the road were hit by stray bullets.

Delfino died on the spot while Violeta was declared dead in the hospital.

Ryan and Paglinawan were wounded and were confined at a hospital.

Police recovered at the crime scene a 9mm pistol, one empty magazine, a Honda XRM motorcycle, a .45 caliber pistol, with a magazine with three bullets, owned by Paglinawan, another Honda  XRM motorcycle owned by Delfino, a wallet containing AFP identification card and other documents. – Dan Toribio
