President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday  sent a strong message to the Abu Sayyaf to run for their lives as the long arm of the law and the might of the military will unceasingly pursue them into the jungles of Sulu and Basilan.

Duterte arrived at the Western Mindanao Command gymnasium Wednesday afternoon to condole with the immediate families of the soldiers who were killed in a fierce gunbattle with Abu Sayyaf fighters in Patikul,Sulu on Monday.

Duterte said that the barbaric act of the Abu Sayyaf member will never be forgotten and he will do everything within his power to “pulverize” the enemies  of the state who were responsible for the spate of kidnappings and other criminal acts in the region.

The president said that the Abu Sayyaf is a serious problem not solely of the government but of everybody, especially the locals in Sulu and Basilan where the ISIS-affiliated group are present and carrying their terror acts.

The president also assured the immediate family members of the slain soldiers that their lives will be taken care of by the government.

He said that the spouses or parents of the slain soldiers will automatically become members of (4Ps Program), where they will also receive one sack of rice every month as well as the monetary allowances under the said program.

President Duterte also directed the DILG to absorb all the spouses of the slain soldiers to government offices as regular government employees for them to sustain their daily lives and raise their children.

Duterte also assured a guaranteed scholarship for the sons and daughters of those killed in action for them to sustain their education in public schools and colleges. They are also being encouraged by the president to join the AFP to follow the footsteps of their father.

The president said that there is no soldier who wishes for his death in the battlefield but when it comes along their way he is sure “that our brave soldiers will face it squarely.”

— Bhong Simbajon/RMN News
