Lamitan City Mayor Rose U.  Furigay has bared a project to construct a building to house the  Philippine Coast Guard, Maritime Police, Maritime Industry Authority along the roadsides at the Bato wharf.

Furigay said theproject will start after both roadsides are cleared of squatters. The area is also planned for a site where products of the city under the City Tourism Office will be displayed.       Erwin Cervantes,  Port Manager of  Lamitan City, together with Philippine Coast Guard personnel discussed the project during a dialogue with the City Council recently.

Cervantes told the City Council that the Philippine Coast Guard Command has been demolished because it is in the side of the wharf road obstructing the front of the City Fishing Port. The demolition of the squatters houses is underway.

The local government is also providing a relocation site for the illegal settlers.

“After the completion of the demolition of the illegal settlers’ houses and clearing of road sides of the wharf, we will submit our final report to Mayor Rose Furigay and the City Council,” Cervantes said. — Allen Abastillas
