The Zamboanga City Police Office has deployed all its forces over the weekend to comply with the directive of PNP chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa following President Rodrigo Duterte’s declaration of state of lawlessness minutes after the deadly Davao blast which killed 14 people and wounded 67 others.

Deputy City Director for Administration Supt. Diomarie Albarico said they have complied with the maximum deployment of police personnel in all 11 police stations in the city to conduct intensified intelligence gathering, visibility patrols and maximized spot and mobile checkpoints day and night as precautionary measures against terror plots.

The call of the PNP chief is for all police units in the country to implement heightened alert status which was already earlier declared by ZCPO on September 1,2016 following the threats posted from the IS-linked Abu Sayyaf in Basilan and Sulu provinces who are under pressure from intensive military operations as ordered by the president.

Albarico said the local police force has maximized efforts and took several precautions to deter any diversionary tactics by militant group tagged as behind the Friday night market bombing in Davao.

“We are not spared from bomb threats. In fact before it happened in Davao, we have placed our troops on heightened alert due to numerous bomb threats we have received,. This was the very reason why we have beefed up our security in public places and vital installations of the city,” Albarico said.

The official was accompanied by Mayor Beng Climaco and Task Force Zamboanga chief Col. Juvymax Uy in conducting night patrol on the eve of the Davao blast to ensure that the city is safe and secure and the people who are still out at night in night spots are well protected.

“The instruction of our city mayor was to ensure that the public is protected from harm or any threats, we are trying our very best to do that with the utmost cooperation of our counterparts and the barangay force multipliers,” Albarico said.

Albarico also convened the K9 assets and Bomb Squad units of ZCPO to review their present deployment and conduct an assessment on the threats as well as the results of the intensified intelligence gatherings of the police command in monitoring suspicious bombers and local terrorists who might have plan to disrupt peaceful status of the city.

He said that they have no time to lower  their guards as he assured the safety of Zamboangeños who were victims of similar terror acts in the past.

“I am appealing to the public to please help and cooperate with their local police with regard to monitoring of new faces in their localities as well as report to us immediately the presence of suspiciously abandoned baggages for our operatives to verify it and prevent any untoward incident to happen. Let us pray for the safety of our city,” Albarico said. – Bhong Simbajon/RMN News
